Alan Thornett
Car worker, shop steward and revolutionary socialist. Thornett went into the car industry at Cowley in 1959, became a leading shop steward and deputy convenor in the Transport and General Workers' Union, and was sacked by British Leyland in 1982. He has written for the socialist press ever since: through the miners' strike and the defeats of the 1980s, the regroupment of the left, Scotland and Europe, and, in recent years, the ecological crisis.
